Sonoco is looking for a Division SPS Practitioner to lead our SPS (Sonoco Performance System) implementation across a region, including the foundational Manufacturing Basics. You will be instrumental in driving a culture of continuous improvement and sustainable results. This is a remote position requiring 50% to 75% travel to plant sites.
What You'll Do
- Develop, execute, and maintain the SPS implementation plan with the leadership team to drive training and ongoing process improvements.
- Communicate and review monthly trip reports, implementation plans, and scorecards with Division management to ensure compliance.
- Utilize division leaders to calibrate expectations on 5S audits, DTM audits, machine condition, and maintenance excellence.
- Work with Division leadership to identify correct metrics and stretch goals for plants across the SPS Continuum.
- Train, coach, and educate plant associates on improving zero-based losses and KPIs like OEE, quality, waste, and safety.
- Assist in strategic planning, special projects, cost/benefit analysis, and assessing the financial impact of SPS at plant and division levels.
- Align Divisional goals with SPS by leading a division-level SPS steering team.
- Identify and train personnel to understand, communicate, and act on implemented metrics and tracking.
- Perform job functions independently without direct supervision.
- Utilize Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies to foster a learning culture and dedication to ongoing improvement.
- Assist in leading, coaching, mentoring projects, succession planning, SPS, and Budgeting for the Division.
- Mentor and support Lean-Six Sigma, DMAIC, and TPM processes as needed.
- Review pillar team and model machine team communication boards for accuracy, standardization, and clarity.
- Schedule and execute engagement visits with pre-defined agendas.
- Complete monthly trip reports, implementation plans, and scorecards after each plant visit.
- Coordinate schedules and communications within the SPS team for consistent messaging to plants.
- Ensure plants follow the SPS process without shortcuts.
- Drive understanding and focus on both process steps and performance results.
- Provide direct feedback to plant managers on people and process deficiencies and help develop corrective action plans.
- Coach pillar leaders and teams to share learnings and leverage standardization.
- Drive standardization of Processes, Pillars, Metrics, Systems, and Communication Formats across plants and the division.
- Identify, schedule, and support resources needed at the plants.
- Lead pre-assessment actions to prepare plants for SPS implementation.
- Participate in SPS Division Steering team meetings and provide feedback on progress, issues, and barriers.
- Assist plants in meeting SPS implementation plan completion dates.
- Schedule monthly Area Manager visits or calls to review KPI performance progress, requiring stretch goals.
- Communicate resource limitations (capital or people) to SPS Leader and Regional Managers.
- Support plant rewards and recognition decisions as milestones are achieved.
- Walk the production floor with plant managers and pillar team owners, participating in 5S audits, DTM audits, and OPL reviews.
- Continuously raise the bar on expectations.
What We're Looking For
- Manufacturing leadership, engineering, or continuous improvement experience (TPM, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
- Strong technical aptitude and the ability to grasp general knowledge of division-specific manufacturing, financials, and technologies.
- Ability to effectively lead multi-functional teams at different sites, from the plant floor to regional teams.
- Demonstrated skills in working with shop floor teammates, team development, and leadership.
- Skill at building harmonious and sympathetic relationships with others.
- Skill at enlisting others’ support and assistance in influencing others.
- Effective, efficient, and seamless ability to deliver intent, message, and context to ensure knowledge transfer.
