Standard Insurance Company is hiring a Disability Claim Specialist - IDI

About the Role

Standard Insurance Company is hiring an IDI Disability Claim Specialist to secure and analyze claim information, making accurate benefit decisions on complex and high-liability claims while delivering excellent service.

What You'll Do

  • Investigate, secure, and analyze information on claimants' medical conditions, occupational demands, earnings, insured status, and policy provisions to determine eligibility for disability benefits.
  • Evaluate insurance applications for accuracy and consistency, partnering with Underwriting, Legal, and other teams as needed.
  • Work with medical, vocational, and financial resources to support a thorough and consistent claim evaluation.
  • Make and communicate disability approval decisions and issue correct benefits.

What We're Looking For

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of disability claims processing experience with at least 2 years of IDI-specific claims experience.
  • Ability to understand and interpret all claim evaluation materials such as contract language, medical records, financial records, and legal correspondence.
  • Experience acting as a liaison with underwriting, reinsurance carriers, sales, private investigators, and other partners.
  • Recognize, understand, and respond to situations involving potentially fraudulent activity and/or litigation to ensure a defensible file.
  • Effectively identify and prioritize critical objectives, focusing on high-impact components, and provide effective leadership.

Nice to Have

  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but in lieu of a degree, significant IDI claims experience may substitute.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Compensation range: $76,250.00 - $111,500.00
  • A rich benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k) plan with matching company contributions.
  • An annual incentive bonus plan.
  • Generous paid time off including 11 holidays, 2 wellness days, and 8 volunteer hours annually — PTO increases with tenure.
  • A supportive, responsive management approach and opportunities for career growth and advancement.
  • Paid parental leave and adoption/surrogacy assistance.
  • An employee giving program that double matches your donations to eligible nonprofits and schools.
