About the Role

The Oregon Department of Human Services is hiring a Disability Analyst 2 for its Collaborative Disability Determination Unit (CDDU). In this role, you will determine eligibility for the State Family Pre-SSI/SSDI, General Assistance, and Disability Benefit Liaison programs by researching, interpreting, and applying complex Social Security Administration laws and criteria.

What You'll Do

  • Determine eligibility for State Family Pre SSI/SSDI, GA, and DBL programs using criteria from the State of Oregon and the SSA.
  • Determine if applicants meet SSA disability criteria using the Presumptive Medicaid Disability Determination Team (PMDDT) process.
  • Research, interpret, and apply complex technical procedures per SSA Program laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide case development advice and direction, including directing the purchase of consultative medical examinations.
  • Prepare, in partnership with the customer, applications for Social Security or other benefits, including writing and filing appeals and requests for reconsideration.
  • Order, obtain, analyze, and evaluate medical, psychological, social, vocational, and other pertinent data for eligibility determination.
  • Consult with mental health specialists, DDS specialists, vocational rehabilitation specialists, and medical professionals to determine disability and make referrals.
  • Review disability claims processed by other Disability Analysts to determine/redetermine eligibility and obtain additional documentation.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with ODHS resources and other public/private agencies to coordinate services.

What We're Looking For

  • Three (3) years of experience compiling and analyzing facts to determine eligibility requirements in compliance with program guidelines and regulations.
  • Two (2) of the three (3) years must include evaluating applicants for Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income program benefits.
  • A bachelor’s degree in medicine, psychology, nursing, pharmacy, rehabilitation counseling, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field; OR
  • Three (3) years of responsible pertinent experience providing knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, impairments, and their effect on work performance (e.g., Military Corpsman, Nurse, Psychiatric Aide).
  • OR six years of progressively related professional-level experience, training, and education leading to required knowledge and skills, with two (2) years evaluating applicants for SSDI and SSI benefits.

This role is part of the Aging and People with Disabilities (APD) Program within ODHS. APD’s vision is for older adults and people with disabilities to experience person-centered services that maintain independence, promote safety, honor choice, respect cultural preferences, and uphold dignity.
