Lead and shape academic advising at Eugene Lang College as the Director, Student Success Advising, where you will manage a dedicated advising team and play a central role in advancing student success across The New School. You will supervise staff, guide performance development, and contribute to strategic planning that strengthens student retention and academic achievement.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the academic advising unit, including supervising staff, leading hiring processes, and fostering professional growth through mentorship and feedback.
- Develop and implement assessment strategies to improve advising effectiveness and student outcomes.
- Collaborate with faculty, program directors, and department chairs to support student academic planning and address challenges.
- Interpret and apply university, college, and program-level policies related to degree progress, transfer credits, probation, and graduation eligibility.
- Build and refine workflows between advising and partner offices such as the registrar, study abroad, and academic departments.
- Champion student persistence through participation in orientation, academic events, recruitment, and graduation activities.
- Represent Student Success at campus functions, including those held outside standard hours.
- Ensure compliance with FERPA, Title IX, and other regulatory standards in all student interactions and recordkeeping.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of institutional curricula and advising technologies, including Banner, DegreeWorks, and Starfish.
- Stay informed about national trends in academic advising and engage in professional development through training and advising networks.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and have 8–10 years of experience in student engagement and academic advising, including at least five years in a supervisory role. Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal communication, cultural sensitivity, and critical thinking are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with student information systems are required.
A master’s degree in Higher Education or a related field is preferred, along with 6–8 years of higher education experience focused on advising. Familiarity with Banner, DegreeWorks, and Starfish, as well as involvement in professional organizations such as NACADA or NASPA, is advantageous.
