The Director, RSRB holds primary responsibility for leading the Research Subject Review Board, the University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB), which oversees all research involving human participants. This position ensures adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations while supporting the advancement of ethical, high-quality research across diverse academic fields.
What You'll Do
Provide executive leadership for the RSRB, directing daily operations and long-term strategy for human subject research oversight. Lead the review, approval, and monitoring of research protocols to ensure compliance, timeliness, and scientific integrity. Develop and refine institutional policies and procedures to align with evolving regulatory standards and best practices.
Supervise and mentor a professional team responsible for compliance, regulatory submissions, and audit readiness. Recruit, train, and support faculty members serving on RSRB committees, ensuring consistent and thorough protocol evaluations. Maintain comprehensive records and systems that support transparency, accountability, and successful outcomes during internal and external audits.
Represent the University in engagements with federal agencies such as OHRP, FDA, NIH, and NSF. Participate in national forums to stay ahead of regulatory trends and contribute to the broader research compliance community. Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership on risk mitigation, policy interpretation, and strategic initiatives related to human subject protections.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, ethics, life sciences, or regulatory affairs
- Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience, including leadership roles in research compliance or IRB administration
- Proven experience in IRB operations and deep familiarity with federal regulations governing human subject research
- Current or ability to obtain Certified IRB Professional (CIP) credential within 180 days of hire
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to interpret complex policies and assess institutional risk
- Demonstrated success managing teams in a dynamic, regulated environment, including remote supervision
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with experience collaborating across academic and administrative units
