Wordly.ai is hiring a Director of Product Engineering to lead the group responsible for delivering high-quality, scalable translation and translation-adjacent features. You will manage multiple cross-functional software development teams working on various product features in parallel.
What You'll Do
- Prioritize, staff, and manage multiple product features through the development lifecycle.
- Empathetically manage individuals through constructive coaching and provide opportunities for professional development.
- Delegate responsibilities effectively to facilitate team growth.
- Create and maintain a welcoming and supportive group culture.
- Manage hiring and onboarding for new Customer Experience team members.
- Develop and maintain effective engineering processes to keep the group focused on business objectives.
- Communicate on a technical level with engineers to scope projects and understand potential roadblocks.
- Act as a hands-on engineer in small bursts to help development teams stay focused.
- Work with cross-functional teams to create and oversee achievable project milestones and schedules.
- Manage outsourced engineering teams to ensure adherence to statements of work and that deliverables meet criteria.
- Regularly assess and manage project risks to identify and address potential issues.
- Create, organize, and share detailed project documentation with stakeholders.
- Prepare and give presentations to senior management on the state of ongoing projects.
- Manage vendor relationships to ensure contractual obligations and SLAs are met.
- Oversee the delivery of software features to the production environment.
What We're Looking For
- A strong technical background with at least 7+ years of hands-on software development experience.
- At least 3+ years of experience as an engineering manager or in a related people management role.
- Experience staffing and managing multiple development teams that coordinate effectively.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects to satisfy business and engineering objectives.
- Ability to institute clear, measurable, and effective engineering processes for successful feature delivery.
- Experience overseeing at least one major software project from concept to delivery.
- Outstanding communication and documentation skills, capable of understanding technical and business concepts and communicating them simply across domains.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision, taking initiative and making informed decisions.
- Strong problem-solving skills, devising creative solutions and workarounds.
- Willingness and ability to work with external and outsourced teams in varying timezones.
- Comfort working in a fully remote environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience working as an engineer or manager on other translation and/or transcription software solutions.
- Experience working as an engineer or manager for a cloud-based software solution.
- Hands-on experience working on microservice architectures.
- Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools such as Jenkins or ArgoCD.
- Experience working with dedicated quality assurance teams.
- A B.S. degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution.
