Scout Motors is looking for a Director, People to architect and scale the systems that enable high performance across our distributed organization. This is a builder role where you will own the infrastructure that drives clarity, accountability, development, and consequence management across the employee lifecycle.
What You'll Do
- Design, launch, and continuously evolve a scalable performance management framework.
- Define and operationalize what high performance means by role, level, and impact.
- Establish clear goal-setting, feedback, and accountability rhythms across the organization.
- Partner with leaders on talent planning, succession, development, and performance accountability.
- Ensure compensation calibration and leveling frameworks reinforce performance standards.
- Architect scalable lifecycle systems from onboarding to development, retention, and transitions.
- Strengthen HRIS and people infrastructure to ensure data accuracy and operational reliability.
- Identify friction points across the employee experience and redesign workflows for clarity and efficiency.
- Build processes that scale from 100 to 300+ employees without losing accountability or culture.
- Define and track key people metrics: performance, retention, mobility, engagement, and organizational health.
- Translate data insights into practical action plans for leaders.
- Establish disciplined reporting cadences and raise the bar on operational rigor.
- Leverage technology and emerging tools to improve visibility, efficiency, and decision quality.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years progressive HR/People experience.
- Have built performance systems from the ground up.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and raising standards.
- Data fluent.

- Experience operating in remote or distributed environments.
- Experience scaling organizations from ~100 to 300+ employees.

You will be joining a company of ~120 employees where recruiting is owned separately. This role reports to the VP, People.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation range: $180,000 - $210,000 + equity
