The University of Toronto's Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering (FASE) is hiring a Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). In this senior role, you will collaborate with academic, administrative, and student leaders to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion within the Faculty's learning and working environments. You will provide strategic guidance on policy and practice concerning accessibility, diversity, and freedom of expression.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement EDI initiatives across the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering.
- Educate and advance EDI principles through training, outreach, and the provision of expert advice.
- Act as a key point of contact and expert resource for staff, faculty, and students across FASE.
- Work closely with HR, the Case Manager, Community Safety, and University equity directors to ensure timely resolution of reported incidents.
- Provide strategic guidance and advice to the Dean’s Academic and Administrative Leadership teams on policy interpretation and practice.
- Lead professional development, educational, and mentorship initiatives for all levels of the FASE community.
- Represent FASE in various forums within the University and the broader community.
- Coordinate and co-chair meetings of the FASE EDI committee and its working groups.
- Identify gaps and make recommendations for improving EDI practices.
What We're Looking For
- A graduate degree in a relevant field of study, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in complex equity and diversity issues related to both learning and workplace environments.
- A thorough understanding of diversity frameworks and the role of human resources and equity within an organization.
- Proven experience as an organizational leader promoting diversity, access, and inclusion, with a track record of bringing about positive change.
- Experience designing and delivering educational programs.
- Highly proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus internet research skills.
- Must maintain a thorough understanding of EDI, intersectionality, protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code, and related law and policy.
- An open, creative, and collaborative approach to problem-solving and relationship management.
- Ability to understand diverse viewpoints and build synergies to achieve Faculty and University EDI goals.
- Demonstrated superior judgement, tact, and political acuity to address sensitive topics.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and mediation skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, and to operate at strategic, policy, and operational levels.
- Highly developed organizational, program development, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience working within a post-secondary context is strongly preferred.

Team & Environment
You will report directly to the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, with a dotted line to the University’s Executive Director, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. You will work closely with FASE’s HR Offices, the Case Manager for Community Safety & Divisional Support, and the University’s equity directors.
Benefits & Compensation
- Salary Range: $132,351 - $220,587
