United Franchise Group (UFG, Inc.) is hiring a Director, Engineering (Core Engineering) to lead the Delivery Experience, Quality Engineering, Assembler, and SRE teams. You will be responsible for the foundation of our cloud-native platform and technologies, focusing on internal tooling, quality engineering, automation, site reliability, performance, and security.

What You'll Do

• Develop team roadmaps in service to internal and external customers to improve engineering efficiency and product/platform quality.
• Guide teams to deliver on business goals with timely, iterative execution.
• Work closely with product and security leaders to set delivery expectations and engage in dialog around trade-offs.
• Cultivate a culture around structured software development, innovation, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Communicate how team and individual work ties to company strategy and goals.
• Guide managers in developing efficient processes, goal setting, and metrics.
• Continuously provide coaching, feedback, and career development to engineering managers.
• Maintain a rigorous SLO-driven quality and incident response program.
• Establish benchmarks for product and platform aspects including feature, scalability, performance, reliability, and security.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years managing and mentoring engineers of all levels, including individual contributors in SRE, quality, and software development, and managers of these functions.
• 10+ years delivering large-scale, high-performing, and secure cloud platforms.
• Excellent active listening, negotiation, and conflict management skills across communication styles and levels.
• Solid understanding of data analysis, performance/operational metrics, and statistics, and experience using these to make decisions.
• Experience contributing to roadmap/budget planning and making data-backed financial business decisions.
• Solid understanding of software engineering, applications security, and quality best practices in Linux-based SaaS environments.
• Technical and cost management experience working with cloud-native services in GCP, AWS, or Azure (priority order: GCP, AWS, Azure).

• Experience preferably on remote/hybrid teams.

• Compensation range: $187,800 - $272,300 USD + equity
