Penguin Random House is hiring a Designer, Covers & Interiors, Brand & License to join the art department at Random House Children’s Books. You will focus on developing and designing new frontlist titles and backlist initiatives for the Dr. Seuss publishing program. This role requires strong bookmaking proficiency across multiple formats, including picture books, board, novelty, and activity books, within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

What You'll Do

Work collaboratively with the Assistant Art Director and editorial partners to support and develop projects that meet Dr. Seuss brand objectives.
Design assigned titles from concept to final art, ensuring high quality and effectiveness.
Collaborate with illustrators, guiding work from initial sketches through revisions and final art for covers and interiors.
Prepare book mechanicals for routing, approvals, and release print-ready files to production per printer standards, with strict attention to detail and deadlines.
Create digital sales material for assigned titles.
Research and pitch new artists, bringing appropriate samples or materials to art and editorial meetings.
Attend and participate in production meetings, team meetings, and meetings with supervisor and editors for specific projects.
Self-manage your workload to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.

What We're Looking For

Exceptional attention to detail and a strong knowledge of pre-press, 1-color and 4-color printing processes, and PDF workflows.
Strong design skills with a focus on typography and layout design for illustrated books.
High proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other relevant tools for preparing print-ready files.
Highly organized, process-oriented, and a strong collaborator.

Nice to Have

A minimum of 4 years in a children’s book design publishing position with an emphasis on highly illustrated titles.

Work Mode

This is a hybrid position. Candidates must be located in the Tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA) and be commutable to 1745 Broadway, NYC.
