About the Role

The National Energy System Operator (NESO) is looking for a Data Scientist/Analyst to join our RESP Digital and Data team. In this critical role, you will enable the creation of key products by applying your data expertise directly within multidisciplinary squads, ensuring data is robust, usable, and impactful on our journey to forge a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with product teams to scope, ingest, and curate data that supports product development and delivery.
  • Translate complex data requirements into actionable insights and visualizations.
  • Support the ongoing development of digital tooling and data flows that underpin RESP products, including documenting process and procedures.
  • Enable the design and iteration of data identification and ingestion processes, ensuring traceability and alignment with RESP methodology.
  • Engage with regional teams to understand local data contexts and integrate these into national products.
  • Participate in agile sprints and workshops to refine data needs and support iterative product development.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven ability to write and execute queries and scripts for data analysis, including using libraries such as Pandas and GeoPandas.
  • Comfort cleaning, transforming, and analysing large, complex datasets from a central data platform.
  • Demonstrated experience translating quantitative data into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Skilled at creating impactful visualizations to support regional teams in presenting findings to stakeholders.
  • Experience with foundational geospatial concepts and analysis using either spatial SQL or GIS platforms like QGIS or ArcGIS.
  • A strong track record of turning broad, strategic questions into specific, actionable analytical tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team and supporting the presentation of data to non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment, participating in sprints, and contributing to the iterative development of data products.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Data Bricks.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining interactive dashboards in tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Streamlit.
  • Deeper proficiency in geospatial techniques, such as network analysis, raster processing, or spatial statistics.
  • A background or strong interest in geography, urban/regional planning, infrastructure, or the energy sector.
  • Previous experience working within the public sector, a regulated industry, or on large-scale strategic programmes.
  • Practical experience navigating data licensing and governance frameworks within a project setting.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary range: £54,000 – £63,000 per annum.
  • Bonus based on company performance.
  • 26 days annual leave as standard.

Work Mode

This is a hybrid role. You will be based out of one of our office locations in Wokingham, Warwick, or Glasgow.
