About the Role

Komodo Health is hiring a Data Scientist for our Analytics Consulting team. You will build analytics pipelines and complex logic for projects that address customer needs using real-world healthcare data. In this role, you will deliver high-value data analytics projects, implement client solutions using advanced statistical analysis or machine learning, and develop a deep understanding of healthcare claims data.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver high-value data analytics projects.
  • Implement client solutions using techniques like advanced statistical analysis or machine learning for targeted therapeutic areas in our patient population.
  • Develop a deep understanding of healthcare claims data.
  • Construct complex statistical and mathematical models and develop supporting platforms for their use.
  • Effectively partner with teams to translate client requirements into analytics to solve client needs with the capabilities of datasets available at Komodo.
  • Work with the data science team to scale our solutions, automate code, and centralize complex logic for reusability. Advocate for good engineering practices within the team.
  • Present findings, insights and analytical results to internal and external partners for client deliveries, as well as the larger data science function for continued growth and learning.
  • Work with clients to creatively resolve issues and further develop analyses.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Analytical mindset and the ability to solve complex problems with limited supervision.
  • At least three years of industry experience working with Python and large-scale databases using SQL (data query, data cleaning, data transformation).
  • Familiarity with PySpark and R.
  • Experience working with a large anonymized patient-level healthcare database (preferably administrative claims or EHR).
  • Comfort communicating complex data science topics to audiences of variable technical capability.
  • Proficient with complex topics in machine learning modeling, advanced statistics/biostatistics, algorithm design and knowledge of ML software packages.
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and demanding agile environment.
  • Interest in growing skills as a Data Scientist and being willing to learn and teach as part of a team.
  • Strong business acumen demonstrated by a good understanding of how analytics insights (preferably in healthcare analytics) tie into business goals.
  • High motivation, work ethic, and self-discipline to organize and complete tasks.
  • Applies AI strategically, knowing how to use the right tools at the right time to solve problems or generate new ideas.
  • Uses AI to accelerate feedback loops, test ideas, and make informed decisions faster.
  • Applies both judgment and creativity when working with AI and understands its limitations.
  • Demonstrates curiosity and initiative in exploring new AI tools and workflows relevant to their role.
  • Has developed or shared AI-enhanced workflows, automations, or prompts with others.
  • Brings a reflexive AI mindset and uses AI as a natural part of their process to iterate, research, and deliver better work.
  • Comfortable working in AI-enhanced environments across writing, data analysis, content creation, or design.
  • Regularly leverages AI tools such as Notion AI, Perplexity, Claude, Descript, Runway, Midjourney, or Microsoft Copilot to improve speed, clarity, or creative output.

  • For the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City: $161,000—$190,000 USD. For all other US locations: $140,000—$175,000 USD. Plus equity: Eligible for equity awards.
