In this role, you'll play a central part in ensuring data is accurate, well-documented, and trusted across the enterprise. Working within the Office of Data Governance and Analytics, you'll help build and maintain foundational data assets that support transparency, compliance, and informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Curate and manage metadata across strategic data assets, ensuring consistency and accessibility
- Develop and maintain comprehensive data lineage diagrams that map data from source to consumption
- Build and update business glossaries, data taxonomies, and classification standards
- Define and implement data quality rules, thresholds, and validation procedures
- Support integration of data sources into the enterprise data catalog
- Collaborate with business analysts and technical teams to identify critical data elements
- Conduct metadata and data quality audits, track findings, and support remediation
- Use Power Platform tools to streamline workflows and reporting processes
- Track progress and communicate updates using JIRA and other project tools
- Maintain documentation for data sensitivity, classification, and governance policies
Qualifications
Candidates must have at least five years of experience in data governance, with proven expertise in metadata management, data lineage, business glossary development, and data quality rule creation. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential. You should be familiar with data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK and have hands-on experience with platforms like Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, or Informatica.
Proficiency with SQL and an understanding of data infrastructure are required. Candidates must pass a background check, comply with conflict-of-interest regulations, and sign a confidentiality agreement. Familiarity with Power Platform and experience in government or enterprise environments are highly valued.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position based in Richmond, VA, requiring four days of onsite work each week. The role may involve occasional non-standard hours during critical project phases or emergency declarations.
