Vaughan Regional Medical Center / ScionHealth is hiring a Culinary Services Supervisor to lead operations within our Nutrition & Culinary Services department. You will ensure quality food service and nutrition care is delivered to patients, employees, and guests while managing daily department functions.
What You'll Do
- Supervise department operations in compliance with company policies and all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Provide daily management of the department budget through operational expense and labor control.
- Maintain financial records, including department expenditures and daily meal counts.
- Develop staff schedules to ensure service coverage while staying within budgeted FTEs.
- Schedule and conduct monthly in-service training for culinary staff.
- Inspect food and supply shipments, and sign related invoices.
- Manage the stocking, inventory, and proper storage/labeling of all food and supplies.
- Assist with monthly end-of-month physical inventories.
- Participate in performance improvement by conducting audits, checking logs, and performing kitchen safety/sanitation inspections.
- Supervise menu management processes and provide production sheets and standardized recipes to staff.
- Ensure patient snack orders are verified against diet orders and prepared, labeled, and distributed correctly.
- Communicate patient dietary concerns to the Dietitian for follow-up.
- Supervise food preparation and service for patients, cafeteria, and catering using production sheets and planned menus.
- Monitor food preparation to preserve nutrient content, quality, flavor, and appearance per regulations.
- Monitor internal cooking and holding temperatures to ensure food safety.
- Supervise tray line assembly for accuracy and timely meal delivery.
- Ensure routine delivery of floor stock to Nursing Units and Administration.
- Supervise dish room procedures for cleaning and sanitizing all dishware and equipment.
- Report hazardous conditions and equipment issues immediately.
- Conduct monthly inventory of emergency food and supplies.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of all department roles and fill in as needed.
- Communicate issues, concerns, and opportunities for improvement to your supervisor.
- Stay current with federal and state hospital and food safety regulations.
- Attend all mandatory in-services and staff meetings.
- Consistently demonstrate excellent guest relation skills with all patients, staff, and visitors.
- Read, write, and speak fluent English.
What We're Looking For
- High School diploma.
- Food Protection Manager Certification from an ANSI-CFP accredited program.
- Two years’ experience in large quantity food preparation.
- Knowledge and experience with therapeutic diet preparation.
Nice to Have
- Associate degree or higher in food service or restaurant management.
- Experience in an acute care hospital setting.
Team & Environment
You will report directly to the Culinary Services Manager or Nutrition & Culinary Services Director, working collaboratively across all hospital departments.
