Lead the preconstruction function for a growing construction services organization with a national footprint. In this remote role, you will take full ownership of the pre-award lifecycle, managing complex technical scopes from RFQ issuance through bid finalization and value engineering recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate requests for quotation on new builds and major renovations, ensuring comprehensive coverage across mechanical and specialty systems
- Review, level, and validate subcontractor bids with precision, going beyond summary analysis to ensure accurate comparisons
- Develop detailed scope letters, assumptions, and exclusions to minimize change orders after award
- Issue RFIs during preconstruction to clarify design gaps and reduce risk
- Design and present value engineering alternatives with clear cost and schedule implications
- Strengthen relationships with subcontractors while enforcing protocols that protect client and contractor alignment
- Support turnkey delivery of automotive shop systems including vehicle lifts, exhaust, compressed air, and DEF/lubrication infrastructure
- Collaborate directly with general contractors to position bids competitively and technically sound
- Build scalable estimating standards, templates, and playbooks to support long-term growth
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years in preconstruction and estimating within mechanical or specialty trade contracting environments
- Proven track record managing subcontractor networks across multiple regions
- Hands-on experience issuing RFQs and leveling bids—not just reviewing final numbers
- Deep familiarity with systems such as compressed air piping, bulk lubrication, DEF, electrical coordination, and equipment anchoring
- Experience in public sector, municipal, fleet, or institutional facility projects
- Knowledge of ALI certification, mechanical codes, and inspection requirements
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, Procore, OST/HCSS, and BuildingConnected
- Background in subcontract-driven organizations where estimating integrity is critical
Compensation and Benefits
