LyondellBasell (LYB) seeks a Country Controller for Germany to ensure the financial governance of our German legal entity. Based at the Münchsmünster production site, you will act as the local finance lead and primary point of contact for German authorities, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
What You'll Do
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of statutory financial statements under German GAAP (HGB).
- Coordinate annual accounts, disclosures, and filings with the Bundesanzeiger.
- Maintain complete and compliant statutory books and documentation for the legal entity.
- Oversee local adjustments required for statutory reporting.
- Manage monthly and annual close activities for the German legal entity.
- Ensure accurate IFRS reporting into the consolidated group in Rotterdam.
- Maintain a clear legal entity view of performance and ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions.
- Prepare and review the annual IFRS reporting package.
- Act as the primary contact for external auditors.
- Coordinate statutory audits and ensure timely completion.
- Support internal audit reviews and implement remediation actions.
- Oversee local tax compliance in coordination with Group Tax and external advisors, including Corporate Income Tax, Trade Tax, VAT, and Withholding taxes.
- Ensure compliance with German regulatory, industrial, and environmental reporting requirements relevant to the chemical sector.
- Support transfer pricing documentation and intercompany processes.
- Own the internal control framework for the German entity.
- Ensure segregation of duties and control compliance within SAP.
- Lead local risk assessments and support ethics & compliance initiatives.
- Implement and monitor corrective actions from audits or control reviews.
- Oversee local bank account administration and payment controls.
- Ensure proper execution of treasury policies and intercompany settlements.
- Monitor working capital from a compliance and governance perspective.
- Support capital structure actions, distributions, and legal entity governance activities (board meetings, resolutions, powers of attorney).
- Act as the 'ultimate customer' for services delivered by the Shared Service Center in Bulgaria.
- Monitor SLA performance, ensure compliance with German requirements, and escalate issues when needed.
- Provide local guidance to SSC teams on HGB, VAT, and regulatory specifics.
- Serve as the finance representative for the German site and legal entity.
- Present legal entity performance and statutory matters to local directors, works councils, site management, and executive leadership.
- Provide financial guidance to non-finance stakeholders as needed.
What We're Looking For
- University degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Professional Accountancy Qualification (RA/CPA/Chartered Accountant).
- 7+ years of experience in finance/accounting within complex or multinational environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and German GAAP (HGB).
- Proven experience preparing statutory accounts in Germany.
- Experience with audits, internal controls, and legal entity governance.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Extensive experience with SAP R/3.
- Fluent German and English, both written and spoken.
