About the Role

Pennsylvania State University - Campus Recreation is hiring a Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures to join the team responsible for managing a comprehensive Outdoor Adventure program. You will oversee daily operations, including outdoor trips, climbing, equipment rental, and the Stone Valley Recreation Area, under the supervision of the Assistant Director.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and oversee the challenge course and portable teambuilding program.
  • Assist with facility management and operations of Stone Valley Recreation Area.
  • Assist with Outdoor Adventures trips.
  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student employees.
  • Manage payroll for Outdoor Adventures student staff.
  • Ensure proper compliance with risk management processes and protocols, programs, and operations.
  • Maintain all risk management records according to department and University policy.

What We're Looking For

  • A Bachelor's Degree.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
  • Ability to work independently on assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Assistant Director.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to provide and receive feedback.
  • Willingness to lead students and work in a team-based environment.
  • Eagerness to support and engage with all departmental and Student Affairs initiatives.
  • Ability to take initiative and have flexibility to adapt to shifting workload demands.
  • Ability to work a schedule that may include occasional evening and weekend hours.
  • Ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees, and participants.

Nice to Have

  • A master’s degree in recreation, sports management, higher education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in student development.
  • Knowledge of safety and risk management practices as they relate to outdoor adventures and/or facility operations.
  • Experience operating and facilitating high ropes courses and teambuilding programs.
  • A Wilderness First Responder certification, or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A working knowledge of software systems such as Innosoft Fusion, WhenToWork, or similar.

Campus Recreation is comprised of 48 full-time staff and more than 700 student staff members. You will be part of a team responsible for the Outdoor Adventures program, reporting to the Assistant Director.

  • Compensation range: $46,400.00 - $67,300.00.
