About the Role

Work Arrangement: Fully Remote (Must have significant overlap with U.S. Eastern Time hours; experience with U.S. construction highly preferred)

Job Type: Independent Contractor, Full-Time

Salary Range: Competitive, commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM EST or 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM EST (40 hours/week)

Location: Remote; open globally, preference for candidates with U.S. construction or design-build experience

With a stellar reputation in the U.S. wellness and construction market, they're all about merging design excellence with flawless technical execution.Role OverviewWe're seeking a detail-obsessed Construction Accountant to take the reins on construction finance, project-based accounting, and operational billing for our executive team. You'll be the financial backbone, ensuring rock-solid accuracy in financial records, managing billing cycles (AIA documentation included), tracking job costs and profitability, and supporting compliance across multiple states.

This is a hands-on, full-cycle construction accounting role with a clear path to potentially becoming a Controller as the business scales.Key Responsibilities

  • Construction Project Billing: Craft, review, and submit monthly billing and requisition packages for construction and design projects, mastering those AIA G702/G703 forms.
  • Job Cost Tracking: Manage project-specific cost accounting using QuickBooks and internal spreadsheets, ensuring operations and accounting are in perfect sync.
  • Financial Reconciliation & Reporting: Partner with the company bookkeeper to reconcile project accounts, track profitability, and support financial reporting.
  • Tax Documentation & Compliance: Prepare documentation for quarterly sales tax filings and navigate multi-state tax compliance alongside the company's CPA.
  • Bookkeeping Support: Take the lead on or support internal bookkeeping workflows, depending on your experience and the team's needs.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement ways to streamline accounting processes, boost accuracy, and provide crystal-clear visibility for project managers and executives.

Requirements

Non-Negotiables:

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in construction accounting, bookkeeping, or finance for a U.S.-based construction or design-build firm
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel/Google Sheets
  • Deep understanding of project-based accounting, AIA billing formats, job cost tracking, and profitability reporting
  • Highly organized, proactive self-starter who can manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Unwavering integrity and discretion when handling sensitive financial information
  • Comfortable working remotely and proficient with cloud-based collaboration tools

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience as the primary accountant or finance lead for design, architecture, or construction firms
  • Familiarity with Asana or any project management tool
  • Experience coordinating across multiple time zones or supporting global project teams
