Employment Hero is looking for a Communications Specialist to build and amplify our brand across Canada. In this role, you'll help grow awareness, trust, and engagement with Canadian SMBs through strategic media relations and proactive public relations.
What You'll Do
- Support the execution of Employment Hero’s Canadian communications strategy.
- Drive proactive media outreach, pitching to Canadian outlets across national, business, tech, HR, and regional news.
- Support reactive media opportunities and manage incoming enquiries.
- Help develop story angles tied to Canadian data, customer insights, and market trends.
- Contribute to owned content, including press releases, commentary, and spokesperson materials.
- Draft and distribute media materials like pitches, press releases, and statements.
- Build and nurture relationships with journalists across relevant Canadian beats.
- Monitor news cycles, competitor activity, and emerging trends to identify opportunities.
- Support spokesperson preparation with briefing documents, talking points, and Q&As.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external agencies to produce PR assets like video content, case studies, and reports.
- Track performance metrics, report coverage, and share insights with senior stakeholders.
- Manage timelines, deliverables, and workflows to ensure communications activity is delivered on time and at a high standard.
What We're Looking For
- 3 to 5 years of experience in communications, PR, or media relations in agency, in-house, or scale-up environments.
- Proven experience pitching and securing coverage with Canadian media.
- Strong storytelling instincts with the ability to shape clear, compelling angles.
- Experience drafting press releases, pitches, and media documents.
- Confidence collaborating with content, creative, and data teams.
- A proactive, organized approach and comfort operating in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with earned and organic social channels.
- Strong communication and project management skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience in SaaS or tech is a bonus but not required.
