About the Role
This position is responsible for reviewing patient records and assigning appropriate medical codes to support billing, reporting, and regulatory compliance while maintaining high accuracy and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Review clinical documentation to determine correct diagnosis and procedure codes
- Apply standardized coding systems including ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II
- Ensure coding accuracy and consistency across patient records
- Collaborate with clinical and billing teams to resolve documentation discrepancies
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations
- Respond to internal and external coding audits
- Participate in ongoing coding education and training programs
- Support coding process improvements and workflow optimization
- Verify coding alignment with medical necessity guidelines
- Monitor changes in coding standards and regulatory updates
- Enter coded data into health information systems accurately and promptly
- Assist in the development of coding guidelines and reference materials
- Identify documentation gaps and initiate queries to providers when necessary
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with privacy regulations
- Meet productivity and quality benchmarks consistently
- Utilize electronic health record systems efficiently
- Support revenue cycle integrity through precise coding practices
- Contribute to coding-related projects and initiatives
- Work independently while adhering to team standards
- Adapt to evolving coding technologies and platforms
Nice to Have
- Experience with inpatient coding
- Advanced knowledge of E/M coding guidelines
- Prior remote work experience in healthcare
- Additional certification in specialty coding areas
