Virtua Medical Group is looking for a Coder to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for abstracting billing codes from provider documentation for outpatient evaluation and management, minor surgical procedures, and supplies/pharmaceuticals. You will research coding issues and analyze medical records to ensure appropriate coding practices.
What You'll Do
- Abstract billing for outpatient evaluation and management codes, minor surgical procedures, and HCPCS codes from provider documentation.
- Assign CPT-4, ICD-10-CM codes and modifiers.
- Research simple coding/billing issues for physicians to identify and recommend the most appropriate method of coding/billing.
- Analyze the medical record to determine the appropriateness of coding and potential patterns of abuse.
- Work with Coding/Charge/Audit Analyst(s) to resolve coding issues.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of two years of records coding experience and/or equivalent education (completion of AAPC course or coding program).
- Ability to perform functions in a Microsoft Windows environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in task performance.
- Ability to make sound decisions.
- Demonstrated good communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology.
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) Certification is required or must be obtained within six months of hire.
Nice to Have
- Previous experience with an electronic legal health record system.
