About the Role

Timmons Group is hiring a Civil Project Engineer II/III to specialize in renewable energy structural design. In this role, you will work on innovative renewable energy and structural design projects within our collaborative and forward-thinking Structures and Bridge Design Group.

What You'll Do

  • Design steel piles and steel connections for a variety of structural applications.
  • Develop cast-in-place concrete slab designs.
  • Apply knowledge of renewable energy systems and terminology to structural design.
  • Assist in developing project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Support project and task management activities.
  • Contribute to marketing efforts and proposal development.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in solar structure design.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in structural design software, especially LPile, Mathcad, and Excel.
  • Experience using AutoCAD for plan development.

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • PE License.
  • Familiarity with Excel/AutoCAD interoperability for creating pile plot plans.

Job Description: Timmons Group is currently seeking a Substation Protection & Control Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Design Group located in our Charlotte, NC office. Remote acndidates will be considered. Responsibilities include preparation of P&C drawings, substation project design, studies, and technical documents in the support of the design of substation engineering projects throughout the country.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:* Participate in the detailed design of medium to high-voltage utility substations * Develop detailed design, including one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit, and cable sizing/routing, and selection of substation P&C equipment * Translate written scope documents into comprehensive P&C substation design and drawing package using good engineering judgment and industry/client standards with minimal oversight * Analyze system faults and disturbances to optimize protection strategies using standard industry software (ETAP, Aspen OneLiner, etc.) * Integrate substation automation systems with SCADA and communication protocols. * Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant industry standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE) * Support project management activities, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating with clients and stakeholders * Mentor junior engineers and designers in protection and control principles and practices * Occasional travel required Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering * Minimum of 7 years’ experience in utility substation design * EIT Certification / PE registration strongly preferred * Experience in 15kV through 138kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards * Experience in 230kV through 500kV substation design is a plus * MicroStation (V8 or newer) or AutoCAD (2016 or newer) is preferred * Experience performing P&C design in AutoCAD Electrical using relevant design, analysis and documentation using industry standard software * Ability to manage multiple P & C design projects (brownfield and greenfield projects) * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Ability to adapt and apply standard engineering approaches to complex challenges Additional Information: The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
