Tetra Tech is adding a Civil Designer Technician to our Arctic Engineering team based in Edmonton, AB. You will be responsible for producing design deliverables and supporting geotechnical teams for our important northern projects.
What You'll Do
- Produce Civil 3D and AutoCAD design deliverables for earthworks, roads, dykes/dams, site grading, and utilities.
- Develop conceptual to tender packages, construction drawings, specifications and contract documents using client and corporate standards.
- Conduct earthworks design and slope stability considerations for northern conditions, and present constructable designs.
- Support geotechnical and permafrost teams: incorporate site investigation data and monitoring instrumentation into designs and reports.
- Assist with construction administration and field monitoring; work with northern construction partners to ensure constructability and compliance.
- Prepare cost estimates, assist with tendering and contract administration, and coordinate with clients, sub consultants and regulators.
- Mentor junior designers/technologists, contribute to QA/QC and CAD standards, and support project scheduling and deliverables.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
What We're Looking For
- Diploma or certificate in Civil Engineering Technology / Civil Technician, or a degree in Civil Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant civil design experience for an intermediate level; 7–10+ years with demonstrated leadership for a senior level.
- Advanced proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD; strong drafting and modelling skills.
- Practical experience preparing grading, road, drainage, and utility designs and construction documents.
- Strong technical writing skills for design notes, reports and tender documents.
- Comfortable with field work and travel to remote/northern sites; physically able to perform required field duties.
- Excellent communication, time management, and teamwork skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with slope stability, earthworks, and constructability considerations; northern/permafrost experience is a strong asset.
- Experience with InfraWorks, HEC-RAS, WMS or other hydrology/hydraulics and earthworks tools considered an asset.
- Prior construction supervision or northern project logistics experience considered an asset.
- Familiarity with geotechnical reporting, monitoring instrumentation, and permafrost/thermal modelling concepts considered an asset.
- Experience with MMCD contract administration, cost estimating tools, and as built documentation considered an asset.
- Professional registration or eligibility with provincial associations (e.g., ASET, C.E.T, APEGA) is an asset.
