The Mechanical Technologist/Designer will support the Piping Design team in Vancouver, BC by developing 3D models and 2D drawings for industrial and infrastructure projects. This role involves interpreting design inputs, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver accurate and constructible designs.
Responsibilities
- Create 3D models and generate 2D drawings from reference materials such as sketches, notes, vendor documents, or direction from the design lead.
- Produce accurate and complete design drawings that comply with company, client, and applicable regulatory standards and codes.
- Review 2D drawings and 3D models to identify clashes and assess constructability.
- Evaluate specifications, codes, and vendor documentation for accuracy and integration into design work.
- Maintain well-organized and properly named drawing files within established file structures.
- Complete assigned tasks within defined timeframes as directed by the design lead.
- Plan and manage workload to meet project scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Keep the piping lead updated on project progress and any challenges encountered.
- Coordinate with other disciplines as needed to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Follow internal procedures, legal requirements, and industry standards in all activities.
- Engage in continuous professional development and maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field.
- Work safely at all times and report any health and safety concerns or incidents.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Diploma or certificate in Drafting, Engineering Design/Technology, or a related field.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs.
- Knowledge of construction, operation, and maintenance requirements for industrial systems.
- Experience with 3D modeling software platforms.
- Proficient in MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
- Skilled in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
- Capable of managing time effectively across multiple concurrent projects.
- Adaptable to shifting schedules and changing work demands.
- Focused on delivering high-quality client service.
- Quick learner who can efficiently apply new knowledge on the job.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- High level of attention to detail.
Nice to Have
- 1 to 3 years of design experience preferred; new graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Prior experience with MicroStation is advantageous.
- Familiarity with PDS, PDMS, AVEVA, CADWorx Plant & P&ID, SP3D, SmartPlant P&ID, AutoPlant, or Inventor is beneficial.
- Experience working with 3D cloud points and as-built modeling tools such as Autodesk Recap or CADWorx FieldPipe is a plus.

Compensation
$50,000 to $65,000 per year

hybrid — Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada — Work remote and at our great office location, right in the heart of downtown Vancouver.
