Needham Public Schools is hiring a Chief Technology Officer who will be responsible for the development, execution, support, and evaluation of a comprehensive Information Technology system across all Town of Needham general government departments and the School Department. Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations, you will prioritize innovation and efficiency to enable high-quality services and smooth operations.
What You'll Do
- Plan, direct, and control the IT systems for general government departments, the School Department, and public safety functions.
- Ensure cybersecurity and data integrity, providing backup and emergency recovery plans.
- Apply relevant state and industry standards to equipment, software, and supply purchases.
- Supervise and maintain an up-to-date inventory of Town-wide technology assets.
- Implement a ticketing system for technology-related needs and develop protocols for prompt completion.
- Serve as the first responder to emergency and after-hours technology situations.
- Direct and support Town-wide technology initiatives and special projects.
- Provide technical advice to Town officials to meet regulatory, statutory, and management requirements.
- Develop a Town-wide strategic plan for IT systems prioritizing innovation and industry-leading practices.
- Stay abreast of research in technology applications and changing trends.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to help departments effectively utilize technology.
- Consult with Town administrators on evolving demands and their impact on programs.
- Anticipate and develop strategies that respond effectively to anticipated needs.
- Develop and manage technology operational and capital budgets with department managers.
- Exercise leadership of federal, state, and private source grants to support technology infrastructure.
- Advise Town leadership on the financial implications of technology programs.
- Recommend information technology policy to Town boards.
- Formulate standards and operating procedures for technology systems consistent with strategic plans.
- Periodically review policies and procedures to determine necessary modifications.
- Develop and implement continuity and cybersecurity protocols to minimize operational disruption.
- Create and test user-friendly documentation for enterprise and online systems.
- Assure IT functions are effectively structured with work coordination procedures.
- Recruit, assign, supervise, and evaluate IT staff members.
- Implement practices that foster service excellence for all stakeholders.
- Provide high-quality training and professional development for all staff.
- Create communication and coordination processes to inform staff of department policies.
- Promote a culture of transparency and collaboration where individuals from diverse backgrounds are respected.
- Review and analyze systems and applications for security and operability.
- Establish a system of data collection and analysis for continuous improvement.
- Oversee security of systems, networks, and enterprise information.
- Maintain collegial relationships with technology administrators outside of the Town.
- Speak and act on behalf of the Superintendent and Town Manager with public and community groups.
- Act as staff support to the Town-wide User Advisory Group.
- Attend various events for gathering and communicating information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, business administration, or related field OR a minimum of five years of technology management and/or leadership experience in lieu of a degree.
Nice to Have
- Master's degree.
