Responsibilities
- Teach academic subjects to ELL students who have disabilities.
- Travel to different locations to train teachers, staff, and administrators on ELL curriculum, supports, and interventions.
- Participate in IEP meetings for ELL students, either in person or virtually.
- Prepare and modify classroom materials for ELL students; keep classrooms and materials organized and in good condition.
- Attend Curriculum Team Meetings.
- Supervise students individually or in groups, monitoring behavior to ensure it meets program expectations.
- Create and update IEP goals and track progress for EL students on the assigned caseload.
- Monitor credits and courses needed for graduation for students on the caseload; prepare assignments, grade them, and generate reports.
- Contact parents during crises, emergencies, or for general feedback.
- Coordinate and communicate with other staff to ensure consistent application of the academic and therapeutic program.
- Maintain awareness of all students in the program to ensure consistent application of the academic therapeutic program.
- Keep student information and records confidential.
- Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as requested.
- Support and promote administrative policies and goals.
Requirements
- ISBE PEL Endorsed or Approved for LBS2/Bilingual Specialist.
- Flexibility to teach multiple grade levels as student populations change.
- Ability to teach a classroom of students across all basic instructional areas.
- Ability to work with youth who have emotional, behavioral, or academic difficulties.
- Flexibility, teamwork, and creative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively.
