About the Role

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is hiring a Buyer to join its Procurement Services team. This is a temporary 12-month position with the possibility of extension. As a customer service-focused professional, you will be responsible for overall procurement activities at assigned faculties and administrative units, providing expert advice and education on procurement processes while building strong relationships with stakeholders.

What You'll Do

  • Work with assigned Faculty/Admin Units and procurement partners to understand and ensure successful fulfillment of procurement activities.
  • Provide critical assessment and guidance to faculty and staff in all aspects of procurement, including interpreting related policies and procedures.
  • Resolve problems with end users and suppliers by researching and identifying options, solutions, and action plans.
  • Support consistent sourcing and contracting activities using standard document templates and established processes.
  • Identify potential sources, gather competitive quotes, and recommend suppliers.
  • Manage Faculty/Admin Unit forecasts and upcoming contract expiries as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Supply Management members regarding complex or unusual procurement matters.
  • Manage small to medium procurement projects with low to medium financial risk.
  • Oversee execution of project activities, identify variances, and provide risk assessment and solutions.
  • Prepare various reports to support project costs, KPIs, and assessment against outcomes.
  • Support data gathering, delivery, and reporting of SLAs/KPIs related to Procurement Services.
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with regulations, laws, and procurement best practices.
  • Monitor and expedite open purchase orders.
  • Review requisitions to proactively facilitate accuracy and completeness.
  • Work with requestors to enable requisitions, purchase orders, and payments.
  • Communicate with suppliers to support smooth order placement, delivery, and payment.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and documentation for financial audit control.
  • Ensure administrative tender activities are completed within targeted turnaround times.
  • Communicate ongoing issues to management.

Nice to Have

  • A two-year diploma in Purchasing Management.
  • A university degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Working towards the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 1 year of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Team & Environment

You will be co-located within the Faculties/Admin Units you support and will work closely with Procurement Partners. You will report to a Team Lead.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Monthly salary range: $5,791.00 - $8,323.42 CAD.

This is an onsite position.
