Maples Group is hiring a Business Development Manager

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with practice leaders and the Regional Head of BD to define, implement, and assess growth strategies that align with practice group objectives.
  • Create practical, data-informed plans and budget proposals.
  • Establish clear, measurable objectives and KPIs for assigned practices; manage the annual planning and budgeting cycle and contribute to budgets for practice and lawyer activities.
  • Monitor and report on business development activities, demonstrating return on investment where feasible.
  • Utilize internal BD and marketing technologies and databases for planning, targeting, and measurement.
  • Partner with global and regional Marketing teams to produce engaging content for campaigns, collateral, digital, and other marketing tactics.
  • Identify, evaluate, and oversee strategic sponsorships and speaking opportunities at conferences and seminars for assigned practice groups.
  • Manage and compile legal directory submissions with partners, and assist partners in preparing for interviews with legal directory researchers.
  • Lead and support business development activities across assigned practices, working proactively with partners to target and develop new and existing clients in line with BD plans and global programs.
  • Support BD trips by defining objectives, briefing teams, and ensuring follow-up actions are recorded in the CRM system and executed.
  • Develop and oversee client and intermediary relationship management initiatives, including client relationship overviews and monitoring client feedback and BD leads.
  • Lead the preparation of high-quality credentials, tailored proposals, pitches, and RFP responses, ensuring strategic positioning, consistency, and timely delivery.
  • Manage CRM data, including client and target lists, pipeline activity, and reporting.
  • Monitor market, client, and competitor developments, and use insights to inform lawyers of trends and opportunities, supported by a strong understanding of relevant regulatory and market dynamics.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to grow the firm’s client base and pipeline, including upsell and cross-sell opportunities across the wider organization.
  • Manage project delivery for multi-workstream BD initiatives within assigned practices; assist with coordinating resources and cross-functional teams to ensure timely progress.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the firm.
  • Proactively share information with colleagues, offer help where needed, and contribute to a collaborative, positive team culture.
  • Take ownership of personal development and seek opportunities to learn from team projects and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Support ad hoc strategic projects outside of day-to-day responsibilities that benefit the wider function and firm.
