Brightspeed seeks a Customer Service Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot our high-speed internet, video, and voice networks, including all associated wiring and equipment. In this hands-on field role, you will maintain and repair outside plant facilities within an assigned geographic service area.
What You'll Do
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot high-speed internet, video, and voice networks
- Perform maintenance and repair on outside plant facilities
- Climb poles, dig to bury cable, and work in utility access holes or controlled environmental vaults
- Locate buried telephone cables
- Observe all safety rules and regulations
- Assist other technical personnel when requested
- Actively support sales and marketing activities
- Direct customer-facing work and sales referrals
What We're Looking For
- High School diploma or equivalent experience
- Ability to distinguish colors on facilities
- Ability to handle 28-foot extension ladders (up to 75 lbs.) and utility access hole covers (up to 150 lbs.)
- Ability to successfully complete service tech boot camp training and instruction in POTS/DSL, cable splicing, basic transmissions, air pressure, and HSI installations
- Basic computer skills including MS Office applications
- Ability to work in confined spaces and aloft on a ladder
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and at various hours
- A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- Positive, professional appearance and demeanor when communicating with customers
- Accountability, dependability, and willingness to serve on-call as needed
- Strong teamwork and active listening skills
- Ability to ask relevant questions to solve problems and clarify information
- Curiosity and active learning to improve skills and knowledge
Nice to Have
- Prior experience as a customer-facing telecom operations technician
- Basic electricity training, certification, or equivalent work experience
- ADSL installation and repair experience
- A+ or Net+ Certification
