About the Role

Orca Bio is hiring a Bioinformatics Intern for the summer to join the bioinformatics team. You will complete a self-contained computational genomics project supporting cancer immunotherapeutics and pangenome analysis. This role provides advanced experience developing analytic workflows and interrogating large-scale human genomic datasets, along with professional development opportunities.

What You'll Do

  • Complete a self-contained computational genomics project supporting ongoing research in cancer immunotherapeutics and pangenome analysis.
  • Develop analytic workflows and interrogate large-scale human genomic datasets.
  • Meet weekly with a mentor to review progress and goals.
  • Attend regular group meetings.
  • Present an end-of-summer research seminar.

What We're Looking For

  • Must be working towards a PhD in Informatics or a related computational field.
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. Visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Must possess strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Must be proficient with command-line tools and high-level programming languages such as Python and R.
  • Must have experience developing bioinformatics workflows and processing genomic data.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with long-read sequencing data and pangenome analysis is strongly preferred.

Work Mode

This role is onsite in one of the following locations: Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; Rochester, Minnesota; Mayo Clinic Health System campuses throughout Midwestern communities; or International locations.
