Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors is hiring a Big Data Tech Lead to guide data-driven initiatives across a portfolio of cloud-first projects. This technical leadership role blends architecture, development, and mentorship to build scalable big data platforms for diverse applications, from IoT to machine learning.
What You'll Do
- Provide technical leadership across client projects, conducting code reviews, resolving complex engineering challenges, and aligning solutions to business goals.
- Assist pre-sales architects in scope definition and LOE (Level of Effort) estimations for prospective clients.
- Translate ambiguous or high-level requirements into actionable technical plans with clear business value.
- Lead the data engineering aspects of projects including planning, prioritization, and successful execution.
- Champion best practices across distributed teams, helping to scale delivery excellence.
- Frame problems to maximize enterprise impact and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Actively participate in incident resolution and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
- At least 1 year of experience supervising or mentoring engineers on technical delivery.
- 3+ years of experience writing advanced SQL queries for data analysis.
- 1+ years of hands-on expertise with AWS Data Analytics services (e.g., EMR, Glue, Athena, Redshift).
- 3+ years of experience with data development using Java, Scala, or Python.
- 1+ years of experience with Hadoop or Spark frameworks.
- Strong English communication skills (B2 or higher).
Nice to Have
- Experience in technical pre-sales and SOW (Statement of Work) contributions.
- Familiarity with orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Step Functions).
- Knowledge of streaming data platforms like Kafka, Kinesis, Flink.
- Experience with Delta Lakes, CDC (Change Data Capture), and IaaC tools (Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation).
