Sandalwood Engineering & Ergonomics is hiring an Automation Engineer to join our mission of reducing work-related risks in manufacturing. In this role, you will focus on implementing and optimizing control systems for EV Battery Manufacturing within automotive production facilities.
What You'll Do
- Analyze system requirements, develop mathematical models, and create control algorithms for automated machinery.
- Program and configure PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, and DCS to optimize performance and integrate new technologies.
- Conduct testing, simulations, and validation to ensure system functionality, reliability, and efficiency.
- Maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot existing control systems, planning preventative maintenance.
- Collaborate with design, production, electrical, and software teams to define requirements and integrate systems.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for system designs, configurations, and modifications.
- Ensure all control systems meet regulatory standards and safety requirements.
- Provide technical support and training to engineering staff and users.
What We're Looking For
- A 2 or 4 year degree in engineering and/or technology with emphasis in industrial controls or machine programming.
- Plant floor experience as an Automation or Controls Engineer working with Siemens PLC's and Mitsubishi PLC's.
- Familiarity with plant floor machine monitoring systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Must be based in the Metropolitan Detroit area for daily on-site work.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Ability to travel within the US (Tennessee) and Internationally (China) for 2-3 weeks at a time.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with Ford Motor Company systems and controls.
- Prior experience with EV battery manufacturing.
