The State of Wyoming is seeking an Auditor II to conduct audits of small to medium business entities, verifying proper tax and fee reporting across the state. This entry-level position includes extensive on-the-job training and provides a pathway to independently planning and conducting audits that ensure compliance and contribute to state revenue.
What You'll Do
- Travel throughout Wyoming and occasionally out of state to conduct audits of small to medium business entities.
- Verify proper sales tax, use tax, lodging tax, fuel tax, and IFTA/IRP reporting.
- Participate in an extensive on-the-job training program.
- Assist senior staff in planning and conducting external tax audits of moderately complex to complex business entities.
- Analyze tax history records, financial records, and other relevant data to verify tax accuracy.
- Work under limited supervision, independently and in a team setting.
- Assist team members in reviewing information to ensure compliance with tax rules and regulations.
- Make informed decisions about tax liability and compile audit data into detailed work papers.
- Write accurate audit reports detailing completed audit steps and analysis.
- Perform detailed reviews of all work to ensure audit conclusions are supported by data and comply with standards.
- Testify at the State Board of Equalization and Federal District Court proceedings to defend audit processes and findings.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree (typically in Finance or Accounting)
- 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Auditing) with knowledge at the Auditor I level
- OR 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Auditing) with knowledge at the Auditor I level
- A valid driver's license

Work Mode
