Veracyte is hiring an Associate IP Counsel to join its Legal team and help shape the future of the company's intellectual property strategy. This role is central to protecting the innovations that drive Veracyte's mission to transform cancer care. You will work cross-functionally with R&D, Business Development, and external partners to identify, protect, and leverage Veracyte's IP assets.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with scientists and technical teams to identify patentable inventions and guide the development of strategic patent filings aligned with business goals.
- Oversee outside counsel supporting the lifecycle of Veracyte’s patent portfolio, including drafting, prosecution, maintenance, and strategic pruning.
- Support Freedom-to-Operate analyses for new products and technologies, advising internal stakeholders on IP risks and mitigation strategies.
- Draft, review, and negotiate research collaboration agreements, license agreements, and technology transfer arrangements.
- Partner with R&D and Business Development to ensure IP strategy supports innovation and compliance, and provide training on IP matters to internal teams.
- Contribute to building out Veracyte’s patent program, including process improvements and strategic planning.
- Provide support on commercial contracts and initiatives as needed.
What We're Looking For
- JD (or equivalent) with active bar membership.
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience with substantive work in life sciences IP (diagnostics, medical device, CRO, biotech, or pharma).
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to deliver practical, business-focused legal advice.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across technical and non-technical teams.
Nice to Have
- Patent bar membership.
- Law firm training in patent prosecution or technology transactions.
- Experience in project management or leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Prior in-house experience in a biotech or diagnostics company.
Benefits & Compensation
- Salary range: $159,000 - $215,000 USD
- May be eligible for restricted stock units (equity).
Work Mode
This role offers a hybrid work mode and is open to candidates located within the US.
