About the Role

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an Associate Director to lead our efforts in building and sustaining meaningful employer partnerships. In this role, you will recruit, hire, and develop students and alumni while serving as the primary administrator for the university's Handshake platform.

What You'll Do

  • Lead UAB's efforts to build and sustain meaningful partnerships with employers who recruit, hire, and develop our students and alumni.
  • Serve as the primary administrator of the University's Handshake platform, ensuring effective employer onboarding, job posting management, and data integrity.
  • Act as the main point of contact for employers, proactively engaging business and industry partners to expand experiential learning opportunities, strengthen talent pipelines, and support workforce development initiatives.
  • Drive strategic employer outreach including in-person engagement, relationship cultivation, and participation in industry events to elevate UAB's visibility and foster connections for internships, full-time roles, and professional experiences.
  • Lead efforts to grow off-campus, part-time employment opportunities as part of the Job Location and Development grant.
  • Supervise the Coordinator of Employer Alumni Engagement and provide guidance to a student team responsible for employer-focused communications and social media.
  • Work cross-functionally with campus partners to align employer engagement strategies with academic and career readiness goals and use data and employer feedback to continuously improve services.

What We're Looking For

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Education, Education, Social Work, Human Resources, or a closely related field. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
  • Three (3) years of experience in employer recruitment and retention.

Nice to Have

  • Candidates with experience in higher education supporting career services and employer or community-facing engagement.
  • Experience administering career services technology platforms such as Handshake, employer relationship management, recruitment strategy, data reporting, and workforce development partnership building.
  • Relationship building, strategic thinking, professional communication, sound judgment, and the ability to supervise and develop both professional and student staff.

  • Salary range: $57,940 – $72,000
