This role supports the defense of insurance-related litigation in New York courts, primarily handling first-party claims from case intake through resolution. The attorney will independently manage a caseload involving pleadings, discovery, and pre-trial motions, with responsibility for trial-level advocacy when necessary.
What You'll Do
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, briefs, and opinions on matters of liability, damages, and case valuation
- Prepare and file responsive pleadings, motions, and discovery materials
- Conduct depositions and examinations under oath
- Represent assigned matters at trial or dispositive hearings as required
- Collaborate with claims professionals to assess legal exposure and recommend strategies
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree and active membership in good standing with the New York Bar
- 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense or personal injury
- Ability to interpret complex legal procedures and apply them accurately to case management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to clarity and professionalism
- Proven organizational abilities, including multitasking and setting priorities under deadlines
- Willingness and ability to travel for trials, hearings, depositions, and internal meetings
- Commitment to fulfilling ongoing Continuing Legal Education requirements
