About the Role

Great Eastern Life is hiring an Assistant Manager, Underwriter to be responsible for the Underwriting function across all distribution channels. You will assist in implementing Operations strategy in Underwriting to support the company’s goals.

What You'll Do

  • Perform prudent underwriting risk assessment on all distribution channels within the stipulated underwriting turnaround time.
  • Approve cases that are within your authority limit and ensure all underwriting decisions comply with regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with field force members and other functions on opportunities for improving process efficiency and the customer experience journey.
  • Achieve the operational and performance goals for the section.
  • Perform quality checks on a monthly basis.
  • Assist and respond in a timely manner to inquiries from other departments (e.g., Agency Distribution, Partnership, Customer Service).
  • Perform UAT and provide technical support as required for new product launches, Underwriting rules enhancements, and ad-hoc projects, ensuring sign-off within the agreed timeline.
  • Review and recommend enhancements or improvements to underwriting procedures and guidelines to ensure the process remains effective and aligned with industry standards.
  • Perform ad-hoc duties periodically assigned by your supervisor to meet operational and underwriting support needs.
  • Take accountability for considering business and regulatory compliance risks and take appropriate steps to mitigate them.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats, and technologies to better understand and safeguard against risks.
  • Highlight any potential concerns or risks and proactively share best risk management practices.

What We're Looking For

  • A formal degree or higher education qualification.
  • A minimum of 2 years of working experience in Family Takaful or Life Underwriting.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, relationship-building abilities, organizational capabilities, analytical thinking, and a commitment to fostering collaboration.
  • Ability to effectively and independently manage workload while exercising good judgment.
  • High level of integrity, accountability for your work, and a good attitude toward teamwork.
  • Initiative to improve the current state of things and adaptability to embrace new changes.

Nice to Have

  • Other professional qualifications such as FLMI, AMII Takaful Basic Examination, or Retakaful training.
  • Experience in both underwriting risk and system processes.
