Solventum is hiring an Assistant Chief IP Counsel, Director to serve as the primary intellectual property attorney for a global business unit. Reporting directly to the Chief IP Counsel, you will provide strategic counsel to the business operating committee and leadership team, managing the global IP portfolio, disputes, and agreements to support business goals.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the IP attorney for the business operating committee and leadership team, providing counsel and strategic advice.
- Proactively advise business leaders on key global IP issues to support priorities.
- Partner with the business to create and execute data-driven IP strategies aligned to its vision.
- Manage, with outside counsel, the global IP portfolio, including strategic IP generation and right-sizing.
- Manage all offensive and defensive IP disputes globally in support of business goals.
- Draft and negotiate all IP-centric agreements globally.
- Assess new product launches globally for third-party IP risks and provide mitigation strategies.
- Proactively identify, communicate, and provide counsel on global IP risks.
- Support M&A and investment activity, including due diligence and negotiating deal agreements.
- Partner with other corporate functions and colleagues within legal to support business growth.
- Coordinate regional implementation of global IP programs and strategies.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies and conduct regular IP training and communications.
- Manage the IP budget for the business.
- Lead multiple projects simultaneously from ideation to launch and monitoring.
- As requested, take on subject matter expert roles within IP and Legal.
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Licensure to practice law within at least one state.
- License to practice before the USPTO.
- Twelve (12) years of experience in intellectual property law.
- At least five (5) years of experience working at a large, multinational company.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a science, engineering, or math discipline from an accredited institution.

- Technical expertise in materials science, chemistry, or basic mechanical and digital technologies.

- Compensation range: $259,007 - $316,564 (includes base pay plus variable incentive pay)
