Durham Community Health Centre (DCHC) is seeking an After School Program STEM Instructor to join our team. In this role, you will create a welcoming, safe, and positive environment for children in Grades 1-8. You will lead the planning and implementation of activities, with a focus on educational STEM-based programs.
What You'll Do
- Plan, organize, and supervise after school activities, STEM-based educational programs, sports programs, and community events.
- Develop and implement lesson plans based on a set curriculum to present STEM concepts effectively.
- Create a welcoming and safe learning environment that encourages active participation and strengthens students' social, emotional, and academic development.
- Inspire and empower children and youth to engage with new topics in STEM and explore their areas of interest.
- Conduct public relations activities as needed.
- Ensure acceptable levels of safety and behavior during program activities.
- Participate in monthly staff meetings and in the evaluation of programs and staff.
- Perform other duties as required.
What We're Looking For
- Experience and knowledge in facilitating STEM-based programming, including activities and projects related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with volunteers and other professionals.
- Proven ability to take direction and work independently.
- Current First Aid/CPR certificate.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and software applications, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Sensitivity to and experience with diversity including: race, culture, religion, and sexual orientation.

Nice to Have
- Previous experience working with children/youth in a community setting (i.e., CATCH, High 5 Trainings).
- An undergraduate degree or diploma in a related field.
- Access to a reliable vehicle, with a valid driver’s license.

You will join a team-based interprofessional group of staff and report to the Manager, Integrated Care and Experience.
Benefits & Compensation
- Hourly compensation range: $22.40 - $23.40.
- Optional participation in the Agency’s HOOPP Pension Plan.
Work Mode
This position is onsite. The primary location is Oshawa, with flexibility to transition to or work at other DCHC sites as required.
