About the Role

The University of Chicago seeks an Advanced Practice Provider Manager for our Transplant Surgery team. You will manage and supervise a team of APPs responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will use advanced clinical skills to provide assessment, evaluation, treatment, and medical management to patients.

What You'll Do

  • Take patient histories, conduct examinations, diagnose illnesses, order and interpret laboratory tests, perform specified diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
  • Collaborate and consult with physicians and other health care providers.
  • Participate in educational activities for healthcare professionals.
  • Assume accountability for patient care in decision-making, prescribing medications and treatments, delegating tasks, and maintaining a comfortable patient environment.
  • Maintain current clinical knowledge through professional literature and educational conferences.
  • Partner with the Section Chief and the Vice President of the Transplant Institute to set goals and assess APP team performance.
  • Manage the APP team schedule and facilitate cross training for comprehensive coverage during absences.
  • Develop patient care policies and procedures following best practice guidelines.
  • Monitor self-development needs and implement a plan for professional growth and networking.
  • Promote APP professional growth through coaching, mentoring, and support.
  • Develop and implement best practices for integrated APP practice and at-risk metrics.
  • Identify system and service-specific clinical performance goals.
  • Manage leadership and business development skills to accomplish inpatient and outpatient care mission and strategic plan.
  • Initiate and maintain an organizational structure for APPs and create a culture of collaboration.
  • Ensure the delivery of quality, cost-effective patient care by working collaboratively with APPs in ambulatory and inpatient settings.

What We're Looking For

  • College or university degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license for the State of Illinois.

Nice to Have

  • An advanced degree from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Progressively responsible leadership and supervisory experience in a clinical setting.
  • For Advanced Practice Nurse: Current APN and RN licenses in Illinois or eligibility by start date.
  • For Physician Assistant: Current PA license/registration in Illinois or eligibility by start date, and NCCPA certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership, and teaching skills.
  • Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments and to interview for medical information.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and independent work skills.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills.
  • Strategic leadership and supervisory skills.

Team & Environment

You will manage and supervise a team of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). You will partner directly with the Section Chief and the Vice President of the Transplant Institute.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Compensation: $140,000.00 - $190,000.00
