The University of Chicago’s Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is hiring an Advanced Practice Provider (APN or PA). You will use advanced clinical skills to provide direct patient care under physician supervision as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. This role includes independent ambulatory practice at UChicago Medicine offsite locations.
What You'll Do
- Prepare charts for clinic, including obtaining outside records and pre-charting.
- Provide healthcare services typically performed by a physician in outpatient settings.
- Hold regular cosmetic injectable clinics and perform tattoo nipple areola procedures.
- Prescribe therapy or medication with physician approval.
- Coordinate patient and family education needs with clinical staff.
- Assess patient health status and needs in the outpatient setting.
- Assist in preparing for and expediting the start of surgery in the OR.
- Provide appropriate preoperative and postoperative instructions and facilitate discharge planning.
- Complete rounding of postoperative patients when needed.
- Participate in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with health care colleagues.
- Demonstrate effective use of verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
- Keep knowledge base current by reading professional literature and attending conferences.
- Assist in performing specified diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the outpatient setting.
- Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive plans of care for in- and outpatient teams.
- Follow through via communication with appropriate health care providers to ensure proper care and follow-up.
- Function as a professional role model for staff while providing expert care.
- Promote and utilize appropriate patient care protocols for adult and geriatric patients.
- Collaborate with care team and multi-disciplinary team members to provide direct patient care.
- Serve as First Assist in offsite plastic surgery procedures, including breast reconstruction, tissue expanders, augmentations, abdominoplasties, and general plastic surgery.
- Design patient education programs to support informed health care decisions.
- Evaluate goals and outcomes considering benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve patient care plan goals.
- Perform other related work as needed.
What We're Looking For
- A college or university degree from an accredited school/college.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.
- Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration.
- Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO).
Nice to Have
- An advanced degree (or equivalent) from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- For Advanced Practice Nurse: Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in Illinois or eligibility by start date.
- For Advanced Practice Nurse: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois or eligibility by start date.
- For Physician Assistant: Current Physician Assistant license/registration in Illinois or eligibility by start date.
- For Physician Assistant: Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) by start date.
Team & Environment
You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $110,000.00 - $155,000.00
- Health, retirement, and paid time off benefits.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position located at UChicago Medicine Hinsdale and UChicago River East.
