The University of Chicago Medicine is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APN or PA) specializing in Breast Surgery. This role provides clinical support for the Breast Cancer practice, working directly alongside Dr. Jaskowiak and other surgical faculty. A key component of the position is developing and managing an independent practice within the UChicago Medicine Health System.
What You'll Do
- Obtain medical histories and perform physical assessments.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe medications and treatments.
- Screen patients for hospital admission needs and make referrals to other disciplines.
- Participate in outpatient management and support faculty clinics.
- Prepare weekly Breast Conference write-ups.
- Place medication orders in Epic and handle prescriptions and refills.
- Respond to triage phone calls, patient emails, and MyChart messages.
- Perform in-clinic procedures, such as cyst/seroma aspirations and abscess drainages.
- Assist with operating room coverage to pre-op patients for surgical cases.
- Assist with counseling for basic genetic testing and coordinate with the Breast Center nurse.
- Develop an independent practice within Hyde Park and at offsite locations.
- May provide cross-coverage to other General Surgery services.
- Design patient education programs.
- Evaluate care goals and outcomes considering benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions for patient care plans.
What We're Looking For
- College or university degree from an accredited school/college.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.
- Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration.
- Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO).
Nice to Have
- Advanced degree from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program (ARC-PA).
- For APN: Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in Illinois or eligibility by start date.
- For APN: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois or eligibility by start date.
- For PA: Current Physician Assistant license/registration in Illinois or eligibility by start date.
- For PA: Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) by start date.
