About the Role

Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation is hiring an Associate Director, Access & Reimbursement, Cardiovascular for the San Jose, CA region. This is a remote, field-based role covering Fresno, Salinas, Stockton, Tracy, Clovis, San Mateo, Palo Alto, and San Jose. You will act as the patient access lead, providing education and managing the pull-through of access strategy for complex healthcare accounts.

What You'll Do

  • Interact with large, complex accounts to support patient access, providing face-to-face education to providers and staff.
  • Address customer questions on policies related to product ordering, payment, inventory, and returns.
  • Work with key members of therapeutic area offices to support patient access to products.
  • Analyze reimbursement issues, understand third-party payer specifics, and identify trends at local, regional, and national levels.
  • Support pull-through on local coverage decisions and proactively communicate policy changes.
  • Inform customers on Novartis-sponsored patient support programs.
  • Maintain expertise in the regional and local access landscape, acting as a reimbursement expert.
  • Interface with the Patient Support Center and Access & Reimbursement Managers on patient case management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional associates to share insights on customer needs and barriers.
  • Identify and report adverse events via established Novartis systems.
  • Assess the access situation within your assigned geography, develop a Plan of Action, and communicate it.
  • Educate HCPs on acquisition pathways, buy-and-bill processes, workflows, and facility pull-through.
  • Educate stakeholders on logistics related to ordering, payment, inventory, and product returns.
  • Engage with non-prescribers such as pharmacy staff, system leadership, and financial counselors.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceuticals/biotech industry focused on Patient Services, Market Access, Sales, and/or account management.
  • 2+ years in a Patient Services practice support role for a specialty product(s).
  • Experience working with highly complex practices/health systems to establish access and acquisition pathways.
  • Strategic account management experience using a proactive approach to anticipate access hurdles.
  • Deep expertise integrating manufacturer-sponsored patient support programs.
  • Experience with specialty products acquired through Specialty Pharmacy networks.
  • Knowledge of reimbursement pathways including specialty pharmacy, buy-and-bill, and retail.
  • Strong understanding of Commercial payers, Medicare plans, and state Medicaid in the geographic region.
  • Must live within the assigned territory or within 60 miles from the territory border.
  • Ability to travel and cover the geography, with at least 50% travel required.
  • Driving is an essential function; must have a fully valid and unrestricted driver’s license.

Nice to Have

  • Business and/or biological science education.
  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience leading and delivering presentations to C-level account executives.
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally with Field Sales, Marketing, Market Access, etc.
  • Expertise in therapeutic area practice dynamics and common reimbursement/product program support needs.
  • Strong capabilities in customer focus, collaboration, business acumen, communication, and presentation skills.

Team & Environment

You will partner closely with other NPC field associates, including Customer Engagement (Sales) and Market Access, and coordinate cross-functionally within NPC (e.g., with the Patient Support Center, Marketing, and Trade).

This is a hybrid role. The position is remote and field-based covering the territory of Fresno, Salinas, Stockton, Tracy, Clovis, San Mateo, Palo Alto, and San Jose, CA.
