UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is looking for a Senior Account Representative to manage all fiscal functions necessary for the prompt and correct payment of hospital monies from insurers and patients. You’ll ensure accurate claim submission, communicate with multiple stakeholders, and review high-dollar accounts while mentoring staff and identifying procedural improvements.
What You'll Do
- Perform duties in alignment with UPMC Health System's service management philosophy.
- Work with multiple payers and verify accuracy of payment posting and reimbursement.
- Resolve payment discrepancies and identify root causes of denials.
- Recommend corrective actions and assist in claim appeals.
- Manage an assigned book of business for timeliness and accuracy of billing, collections, payments, and adjustments.
- Evaluate and recommend referrals to agency, law firms, Financial Assistance, and Bad Debt.
- Understand third-party billing and collection guidelines.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current patient accounting systems.
- Identify issues and submit corrective action recommendations.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting quality and productivity benchmarks.
What We're Looking For
- 1 year of claims, billing, or collections experience; OR 4 years in a business office setting; OR a Bachelor's Degree; OR an equivalent combination.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate with patients, payers, agencies, and the public via phone, electronic, and written correspondence.
- Prior experience with personal computers, electronic calculators, and office equipment.
- Must be multi-disciplined in billing, collections, denials, credit balances, and/or various payers.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Ability to develop and manage professional relationships independently.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Act 34 clearance.
Nice to Have
- Prior collections or medical billing experience with a basic understanding of ICD9, CPT4, HCPCS, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with third-party payer guidelines, reimbursement practices, and available financial resources for payment of balances due.
