About the Role

The Association of American Medical Colleges is seeking a Workforce Studies Research Fellow. This is a part-time, remote position for a graduate student or medical resident to engage in research aligned with the strategic goals of our Workforce Studies team. You will work 20 hours per week from September to June on impactful research projects.

What You'll Do

  • Function as a member of the Workforce Studies team on projects aligned with team priorities.
  • Work on one or more research projects under senior team supervision.
  • Produce at least one published product, co-authored with team members.
  • Potentially present your work to AAMC staff.
  • Select research and data analysis projects based on your background and interest, from topics like physician retirement or access to care.
  • Perform data cleaning, management, and literature reviews.
  • Conduct statistical analysis and produce tables, graphs, and visualizations under supervision.
  • Prepare slides and write drafts of papers and publications.
  • Provide other research and data analysis support to the team.
  • Attend relevant seminars, symposia, and internal AAMC meetings.
  • Use AAMC datasets like the National Sample Survey of Physicians.

What We're Looking For

  • Current enrollment in a graduate-level program in public health, economics, public policy, or other social science fields, OR a medical resident with graduate-level social science training.
  • Strong interest in improving health care service in the United States.
  • Experience analyzing survey data.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with statistical software such as Stata, SAS, R, or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of maintaining accuracy and impartiality.
  • Ability to work independently and capability for teleworking.
  • Strong motivation to build a publication portfolio in physician workforce research.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with longitudinal data analysis.
  • Spatial analysis skills.

Team & Environment

You will function as a member of the Workforce Studies team, reporting to senior members.
