We are looking for a research engineer to lead technical assessments of water and wastewater treatment systems, focusing on sustainability performance and innovation. This role involves building process models, evaluating emerging contaminants removal technologies, and conducting life cycle assessments to inform decision-making for clients advancing environmental goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement water treatment process models to analyze cost-efficiency and environmental impacts
- Evaluate new technologies for their effectiveness in removing emerging contaminants from water streams
- Apply data science techniques to assess system-wide performance and identify optimization opportunities
- Use systems-level analysis to understand interactions between design, operation, and sustainability outcomes
- Produce clear, evidence-based reports and technical documentation summarizing findings
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related technical field, along with at least three years of professional experience. Proficiency in life cycle assessment is required, including hands-on experience with tools such as SimaPro or openLCA. Strong data analysis capabilities, particularly in Excel and Python, are essential.
Applicants should demonstrate experience in handling diverse environmental datasets, applying quantitative methods to complex systems, and communicating technical results effectively. Familiarity with engaging subject matter experts and interpreting policy-relevant data sources is important.
Preferred Background
- Advanced degree in engineering or environmental science
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Environmental or Civil Engineering
- Coursework or project experience specifically in life cycle assessment
- Experience in water system design or operations
- GIS proficiency
