Manulife Financial Corporation is hiring a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist to manage a vocationally-based rehabilitation case load. In this key role, you will help Plan Members return to alternate occupations at their own employer or with other employers, developing innovative strategies to facilitate timely return to work and contribute to profitability.
What You'll Do
- Develop, monitor, and implement innovative, goal-oriented vocational rehabilitation strategies for claimants receiving disability benefits.
- Contribute to the profitability of Group Disability by facilitating more timely return to work.
- Work with Policyholders to develop creative return-to-work solutions.
- Manage budgets and apply financial skills to determine costs and understand the implications of recommended work transition plans.
- Conduct vocational assessments.
- Manage vendor relationships to ensure effective and efficient programs are available to Plan Members.
What We're Looking For
- Extensive vocational rehabilitation experience (5 years) and several years of active rehabilitation experience.
- Direct experience using vocational assessment tools and techniques to assess job skills, create vocational goals and plans, and resolve factors impacting return to work.
- Strong counseling, vocational, and career planning skills.
- Financial and basic mathematic skills to determine costs and understand the financial implications of recommended work transition plans.
- Ability to manage a budget.
- Sound knowledge of Rehabilitation Industry Standards, Disability Insurance, medical terminology, and Disability and Rehabilitation management best practices.
- Understanding of job descriptions and job demands in relation to functional abilities.
- Solid Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
Nice to Have
- A related University degree; preference for candidates with Health Sciences-related education.
- Accredited Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) and/or Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CCRC) eligibility.
- Completion or enrolment in related Vocational Rehabilitation courses.
- Excellent knowledge of Federal and Provincial employment programs, public and private vocational retraining facilities, and employment placement processes.
- Knowledge and understanding of local and regional labor market conditions and trends.
- Bilingual proficiency in French & English.
Team & Environment
Reporting to the Vocational Supervisor within the National Rehabilitation Department.
