USA TODAY Co., Inc. is looking for a Video Producer to join the Video Production Center (VPC) at the USA TODAY NETWORK. This role creates short-form digital video content focused on the 'news of the day' and breaking news for USA TODAY and Gannett’s local properties. The ideal candidate will have strong editorial judgment and a deep understanding of how news travels on social platforms.
What You'll Do
- Pitch, write, edit, publish, program, and share news videos across all USA TODAY NETWORK digital platforms.
- Track updates and new developments on assignments.
- Produce platform-native social video optimized for vertical and short-form consumption (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook).
- Apply knowledge of social algorithms, audience behavior, and platform trends to inform story selection, video structure, and distribution.
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrable experience pitching daily story ideas for news sites and social media.
- Ability to suggest visually compelling ways to tell stories.
- Strong interviewing skills.
- Familiarity with standard editorial style guidelines.
- Experience producing and editing multiple video types (social-driven viral moments, interview-based videos, explainer videos).
- Comfort using AI-supported editing platforms and other digital tools to streamline production.
- Experience with livestreaming setup and execution.
- Experience writing meta data and understanding SEO strategies.
- Strong editorial judgment and fast decision-making.
- Deep understanding of how news travels on social platforms.
- Self-starter who is motivated and competitive.
- Thorough communication and ability to collaborate across teams.
- Flexibility to work an early morning shift (East Coast time), possible weekends, and occasional overtime.
- Schedule flexibility with the ability to work breaking news.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Adobe Premiere.
- Live-streaming experience.
