The Urban Designer will contribute to an interdisciplinary team in Seattle, WA, advancing resilient urbanism and equitable growth through design and implementation. Work includes community plans, public realm projects, and district-scale developments. Strong design, communication, and analytical abilities are essential, along with proficiency in key design software.
Responsibilities
- Assist in urban design projects by gathering data, conducting research, analyzing information, and providing creative input throughout the design process.
- Conduct design studies to help develop conceptual and framework plans.
- Create analytical and design-focused visual graphics.
- Help prepare design documentation and materials for client presentations.
- Coordinate feedback and implement revisions to drawings, deliverables, and project materials.
- Take part in community engagement activities such as workshops and design charrettes.
- Clearly communicate urban design ideas to a range of stakeholders.
- Address the distinct needs of private, public, institutional, and nonprofit clients.
- Collaborate with architects, interior designers, landscape architects, and other urban designers across multiple project types and design phases.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture, or architecture.
- 1–3 years of professional experience in urban design or architecture.
- Solid grasp of systems thinking principles.
- Strong communication and time management abilities.
- Proven experience working on projects at the district scale, such as those spanning 10 or more acres.
- Experience producing presentation materials, reports, research, and analyses.
- Skilled in 3D modeling and parametric design software.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), Rhino, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and GIS.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Revit is preferred.
- Post-graduate professional experience is a strong plus.
- Prior involvement in community engagement efforts.
- Active participation in professional organizations like APA, AIA, ASLA, or ULI.

Compensation
Expected range of compensation: $31.25 to $35 per hour. Pay ranges differ by location. Annual discretionary bonus opportunity.
Work Arrangement
hybrid — Seattle, WA — We currently collaborate in the office Monday through Thursday. Fridays can be in-office or WFH for most roles.
