Canada Life is hiring an Underwriting Analyst

Analyze complex data to support underwriting decisions for group benefit plans as part of a structured, compliance-focused team. This role focuses on accurate rate calculations, policy adherence, and detailed experience reviews across Life, Disability, Health, and Dental benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calculate manual premium rates by organizing and interpreting data to define appropriate risk classes.
  • Establish and manage quote documentation, ensuring proper routing to regional teams.
  • Review incoming data to complete quotes efficiently and accurately.
  • Prepare experience studies for all benefit types using historical claims and enrollment details.
  • Determine average billed rates and run reserve analyses for Life and Disability coverage.
  • Summarize findings for underwriters, supporting informed decision-making.
  • Assist throughout the quoting lifecycle and identify opportunities to improve workflows.
  • Support project initiatives aimed at enhancing accuracy and efficiency in underwriting processes.

Qualifications

Candidates should have completed post-secondary education or have equivalent experience. Strong numerical reasoning and a natural curiosity for data are essential. You must be detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple priorities under deadlines, and committed to delivering accurate results. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

A customer-centered approach is critical—every action should reflect a commitment to fairness and service quality. Familiarity with Excel is necessary for daily tasks, and experience with group benefits or underwriting principles is an asset.

Preferred Background

  • Pursuit of GBA or CEBS designations
  • Fluency in both English and French (required for Quebec roles, beneficial elsewhere)
  • Experience with group benefit product structures and pricing
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Understanding of underwriting frameworks and risk assessment
  • Eligibility for Reliability Status security clearance (conditional upon offer)
